Ms. Tokiwa T. Smith is a leader in STEM Education and Philanthropy, having over 19 years’ experience in academia, government, and philanthropy. Ms. Smith utilizes this experience, through her consulting firm Tokiwa T. Smith Consulting, to serve clients in academia, corporate, government and nonprofit/philanthropy. The firm offers consulting services and training to guide organizations in their integration of racial equity in their policies and procedures, programming and community outreach.
Organizations want to give back to their communities, however it is important that the outreach provides the community with what it needs and not just what the organization assumes the community needs. Tokiwa T. Smith Consulting can support organizations with the development of a community outreach program that aligns with their outreach goals and meets the needs of the community.
In the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors, it is important that individuals and organizations are aware of their own cultural beliefs and values as well as their own biases and their impact on their staff, volunteers and clients. Cultural competency training provides individuals and organizations with the opportunity to learn about and honor the different cultures of staff and volunteers as well as the individuals that are served through your programming. Tokiwa T. Smith Consulting offers a cultural competency workshop series that equips individuals and organizations with tools and strategies to work with diverse populations.

It is important that out of school time programs that serve communities of color provide program participants with culturally relevant STEM programming.
